Our Faith Becometh Unshaken

How to increase your faith in Jesus Christ so it becomes firm and unshaken.

FAITH

Faith is the first principle of the gospel, a principle of action and power. Through faith, priesthood is exercised and miracles are wrought. Faith in Jesus Christ leads to repentance and eternal salvation. While navigating through the storms of life, it can be difficult to remember the importance of continually increasing our faith. Unshaken faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement will allow us to stay on course and successfully traverse the waters that lead us back to the presence of God, even "when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds" (Helaman 5:12).

So how does one develop unshaken faith?

First, evaluate where you are at and hold fast to the faith that you already have. The adversary will try everything he can to break down your faith and cause you to doubt the things that you once knew were true. "In moments of fear or doubt or troubling times, hold the ground you have already won, even if that ground is limited" (Elder Holland, "Lord, I Believe," April 2013 General Conference).

Second, pray mightily unto the Lord. As we pray mightily in faith, as Enos did, we too will be led to exclaim: "my faith began to be unshaken in the Lord" (Enos 1:11).

Third, keep the commandments and make righteous decisions. "Strong faith is developed by obedience to the gospel of Jesus Christ; in other words, faith comes by righteousness (Bible Dictionary: Faith).

Fourth, study, ponder, and apply the words contained in the holy scriptures. "The holy scriptures...leadeth them to faith on the Lord, and unto repentance, which faith and repentance bringeth a change of heart unto them—Therefore, as many as have come to this, ye know of yourselves are firm and steadfast in the faith" (Helaman 15:7-8).

Fifth, study, ponder, and apply the words of our living prophets. "Wherefore, we search the prophets, and we have many revelations and the spirit of prophecy; and having all these witnesses we obtain a hope, and our faith becometh unshaken, insomuch that we truly can command in the name of Jesus and the very trees obey us, or the mountains, or the waves of the sea" (Jacob 4:6).

"You can nurture the gift of faith by praying to Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ...You can strengthen your faith by keeping the commandments...You can also develop your faith by studying the scriptures and the words of latter-day prophets" (True to the Faith: Faith).

Let us all nurture, strengthen, and develop our faith so that we become "unshaken in the Lord" (Enos 1:11).

And he had hope to shake me from the faith, notwithstanding the many revelations and the many things which I had seen concerning these things; for I truly had seen angels, and they had ministered unto me. And also, I had heard the voice of the Lord speaking unto me in very word, from time to time; wherefore, I could not be shaken (Jacob 7:5).
